I Was Wrong About IGN… And Here’s Why
Alright, y’all, we need to have a serious talk. If you’ve been around the gaming and entertainment scene for a while, you know IGN has always been a hot topic. Whether it’s their game reviews, movie takes, or the way they rate anime, they’re constantly under fire. And for a long time, I was the guy defending them.
But after what just happened with Invincible Season 3’s finale? Yeah… I gotta admit that I was wrong.

My Past Defense of IGN
For years, I stood up for IGN. I always told people, “Relax, they’re just giving their opinion,” or, “Maybe they see something we don’t.” I even thought folks were overreacting when IGN’s reviews didn’t match up with fan reactions. I believed in giving them the benefit of the doubt. But man… that Season 3 Invincible review changed everything for me.
A FOUR Rating? Seriously?
Look, I get it. Not everyone has to love the same things. But when something is praised by everyone, and IGN give it a 4/10, you gotta start asking questions. Are they even watching the same show? Are they actually playing the games they review? Or is this just another example of rage-baiting for clicks?
Because let’s be real—a four is insulting. Even if they didn’t love the episode, that rating is basically saying that it was trash. And if you saw the Invincible Season 3 finale, you know it was far from trash.
Conquest Was a Shoulder Shrug? What?!
One of the biggest complaints in the review was that Conquest, the absolute monster of a villain we just witnessed, was a “shoulder shrug.” A giant shrug. Excuse me?!
Conquest was one of the most terrifying villains we’ve seen in Invincible. The man LOVED violence, toyed with Mark and Oliver, and literally thanked Mark for making him feel alive. Oh, and let’s not forget that Jeffrey Dean Morgan absolutely killed it in the role. That whole “I’m so lonely” scene was chilling. But somehow, that was a shoulder shrug?
If Conquest was a shrug, then I don’t know what IGN thinks is an actual threat.
Do they even watch what they review?
This is where my real frustration comes in. Over the years, people kept telling me, “IGN doesn’t actually watch or play the stuff they review.” And I ignored it. But after reading that Invincible review? I’m starting to believe it.
It read like someone skimmed a few clips on YouTube and called it a day. They complained about things that didn’t even make sense. They said the episode had no emotional weight, when we literally saw Mark reach a breaking point that’s going to define his character for the rest of the series.
How do you miss that? How do you watch that and not see the impact?
The Bigger Picture: What’s IGN’s angle?
This isn’t just about Invincible. IGN has been sketchy for a while now. They gave She-Hulk an 8/10 (which was actually trash…), they rated Megapolis a 9/10—Megapolis, bro!—and now this?
It makes you wonder what the angle is. Is this just about money? Are they trying to stir controversy for clicks? Are they playing favorites with certain companies? Because when you consistently see them giving questionable ratings that go against the general audience, it starts feeling like something is off.
And that’s where I had to admit I was wrong. I used to tell people, “Come on, they’re just a company doing their thing.” But no. There’s definitely something more going on here.
Why this matters
Some people might say, “Who cares? Just ignore their reviews.” And yeah, you could. But here’s the thing…big outlets like IGN still influence casual viewers and gamers. Not everyone digs deep to see what the community thinks. A bad review from IGN can genuinely affect a game’s sales or an anime’s viewership. That’s why this kind of stuff matters.
If IGN is just throwing out random numbers to push an agenda (or worse, if they’re not even engaging with the content properly), they’re misleading people. And that’s not okay.
So, what now?
For me? I’m done relying on IGN for any kind of review. There are too many legit YouTubers, streamers, and content creators out there who actually care about the things they talk about. If I want a solid review, I’ll check out creators like Jeremy Jahns or Penguinz0, people who actually engage with the content instead of just trying to grab clicks.
